Advanced Workshops: Ages 13-15

Ages 13-15

June 24-28, August 19-23: Zookeeping 101

Is your teen interested in working with animals one day? Join us for an in-depth workshop focused on the ins and outs of being a zookeeper. Meet professionals in the field and get hands-on experience working side by side with zookeepers and education keepers. This experience will have your teen discovering a different facet of zookeeping each day, with S.T.E.M based workshops, hands-on zookeeping activities, and exclusive animal encounters.

July 8-12: Animal Training and Behavior

During this week-long workshop, teens will learn the basics of animal training and how the zoo uses positive reinforcement and choice based training to make our animal’s lives the best they can be! Campers will meet our animal behavioral specialists and learn how we use psychology here at the zoo in our animal training. Teens will experience animal training sessions up close and will even get to work on their own animal behavior project.

July 22-26: Wildlife Conservation

Is your teen passionate about saving wildlife? Here at Elmwood Park Zoo, it is our mission to inspire active participation in conservation. This week-long workshop will be an introduction into the world of animal conservation. Teens will learn how zoos are making a worldwide impact on global conservation. Between animal encounters, S.T.E.M challenges, and science experiments, your teen will leave this week with the knowledge and the confidence to save the planet!

August 5-9: Enrichment Engineering and Design

As Elmwood Park Zoo embarks on our centennial renovation project, teens participating in this workshop will learn first hand what goes into designing and building new animal exhibits. Teens will get an opportunity to see real changes happening at the zoo while putting their design skills to the test as they design and build mock animal exhibits. Campers participating in this workshop will use their imagination and STEM skills to produce enrichment for our ambassador animals all while learning about zoo conservation and meeting new animals each day.
