A woodland biome is one that is forested with deciduous and evergreen trees and experiences a wide range of temperatures. Deciduous trees shed their leaves in the fall. This promotes the growth of plants on the woodland floor, as the fallen leaves make for rich soil and the lack of leaves on the trees in the spring allows a lot of sunlight to reach the smaller plants. An example of a woodland habitat would be one of the wooded areas in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains. Because woodland habitats are so fertile, they can support a large variety of animals. Some of the animals that you would find in a woodland habitat include deer, bear, opossums, hawks, woodpeckers, and raccoons.
