PROGRAM ANIMAL COLLECTION

There is one other group of animals in our zoo called our Program or Education animal collection. These are the animals that you see our educators present in Live Animal Shows and Animal Encounters and that we take out of the zoo on Outreaches and Zoo-On-Wheels. They do not all come from any particular region nor do they have any special habitats they share. The only thing that they all have in common is that they are presented in our educational programming as representatives of their wild relatives.

Program animals are not on exhibit. They live in special areas set aside just for them, where they can be easily accessed by the education staff. When an Educator has a class about birds of prey and how they pursue and capture their food, they can bring out one of our Education owls or hawks to point out the distinctive characteristics of these hunting specialists.
