Elmwood Park Zoo offers a number of educational programs for school groups from grades one thru nine.

On-site Programs

Our interactive group programs engage learners of all ages by using interesting animal artifacts to touch and live animals to see up close. Group sizes are small to allow for optimal learning opportunities. . Each program is tailored to the age of the audience. We can also design a program around your curriculum. A minimum of 15 people is required to schedule your education program. Program fees must be paid for every attendee of the program (including children under 2). One adult is free for every 15 students in attendance. Membership discounts and rates do not apply to groups. A non-refundable 50 percent deposit is required to reserve your visit date. Your balance is due on the day of your visit and is non-refundable. If you wish to reschedule due to inclement weather, please call 610.277.3825 ext.236 by 9 a.m. on the day of your visit.

Preschool, Kindergarten, First Grade

20 minute program with a maximum of 40 children per program

Good Pets – Bad Pets: What animals make good pets or bad pets? We let our zoo animals help us find out.

Sensational Animals: Let’s look at our five senses and see how our zoo animals use their senses in similar of different ways.

Critter Coats: Find out what coverings our zoo animals wear that make them unique and help them to survive.

All About Animals: Meet three of our zoo animals and find out features that make each animal unique.

Second - Ninth Grade

Our programs for grades 2 – 9 take a unique approach to learning by using live animals and artifacts to study and touch. Programs are designed to aid teachers in meeting Pennsylvania Academic Standards for environmental and natural science in their curriculums.

Who Lives Here: Students will discover the differences in various animal homes and the necessary components of a habitat.

Animal Adaptations: Through hands-on demonstrations and live animals, students will discover different features of small animals and learn how they survive in an ever-changing world by using amazing defenses, colors and other adaptations.

Suitcase for Survival: Using confiscated products from wild animals, students will learn more about the treats many animals face, why many are animals are endangered and what we can do to help.

Good Pets – Bad Pets: Exotic pets are very popular, but many are captured illegally every year. Students will learn the good, the bad and the ugly truth about conservation issues facing pet trade animals.
