DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT (posted 4-19-2013) POSITION: Development/Grants Researcher (Intern/Volunteer) REPORTS TO: Development Department Consultant SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: - Research prospective individual, corporate, foundation and government funders and create donor profiles. - Maintain, update, and maximize the capabilities of the EPZ donor database. - Enter new information and update and ensure accuracy of donor information and records. - Run reports and reconcile with finance. - Take minutes of meetings as required and type up carious forms, such as call reports. - Develop simple proposals such as letters of inquiry, assemble proposal packages, and keep department organized through filing and calendar updates. - Other related responsibilities as assigned.
Training will be provided in database entry and management, report generation, individual, corporate, foundation and government prospect research. Additional training in a variety of development skills will also be provided, such as use of social networking in fundraising, volunteer management, solicitation training and grants/proposal writing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: - Excellent communication skills, with a focus on writing - Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - General organizational skills for filing, updating - Willing to work as part of a team and take direction - Experience with Donor Perfect software ideal, but not required. Experience managing other databases, especially fundraising databases, a plus.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Library and/or research skills are a plus.

MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT (posted 4-10-2013) POSITION: Facilities Technician (Full Time w/ Benefits) REPORTS TO: General Curator SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: This highly motivated individual will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance of Zoo grounds and buildings. Works closely with contractors, architects and service companies. Duties/responsibilities may include: -Construction of exhibits and various infrastructure projects. -Assist management in ensuring safety, cleanliness and efficiency in all areas of operation of the Zoo. -Know and follow all procedures of the department and the Zoo. -Be aware if supplies, spare parts or other consumable items for the use of the department need to be reordered. -Maintain the preventive maintenance of all equipment, machinery and utilities of the Zoo. -Perform daily inspections of areas of responsibility. -Greet guests and exercise professionalism at all times. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: -Valid license and clean driving record. -Skill to follow written and oral instructions. -Working knowledge of electrical, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and overall construction skills. -Full range of body motion, good physical endurance and strength. Activities/responsibilities may include: - Writing and proofreading marketing copy and materials, which may include press releases, media alerts, status updates, and event listings. - Assisting at zoo special events. - Answering phone calls and responding to email queries directed toward the marketing department. - Maintaining the zoo’s online and social media presence through status updates and photo posts.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Elmwood Park Zoo is looking for highly motivated, driven individuals to be a part of our Guest Services team. Prior customer service experience is preferred, and a love for animals is required. The positions being filled require applicants to be personable, self-motivated individuals who work well in a team setting and strive to provide excellent guest experiences. A guest services employee is involved in all facets of zoo life, so applicants should be adaptable to circumstances and prepared to work in various facets, including but not limited to working in admissions and the guest welcome center, the Nature Shop gift store, the Petting Barn facility and Barn General Store, and as part of our special events team.
