Join us at Elmwood Park Zoo every second Saturday (November through March) from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM for a unique opportunity to eat breakfast with the animals! Guests will enjoy a light continental breakfast buffet among the company of animals from our education collection. After breakfast, guests will have an opportunity to meet our diet prep volunteer as she prepares breakfast for our animals. This intimate experience will allow guests to learn more about various animal diets, behaviors and personalities. Following the diet prep, there will be a child-focused craft (see below for details) and activity designed to further engage guests as they explore the Zoo.
Tickets are $18/adult and $9/child; $8/member adult and $4/member child. Reservations must be made in advance.
Space is limited! To purchase your tickets, contact the Education department at 610.277.3825 x 235 or 236.
Dates and themes will be as follows:
November 9 - "Treats with the Turtles and Tortoises" What is the difference between a turtle and a tortoise? Are they really that slow? The answers to these questions and more will be discovered when we meet some of or testudine friends. Children will make their own turtle treat box.
December 14 - "Eating with the Endangered" Elmwood Park Zoo is home to many endangered and threatened animals. We will meet some of the animals and find out why they are endangered. Children will make a washcloth reindeer.
January 11 - "Breakfast with the Birds" Our resident mallard, Mrs. Quackers, will be on hand with her bird friends Sally and Linny as we explore what makes a bird a bird. Children will make special treats for their feathered backyard friends.
February 8 - "Munch with the Mammals" Meet Nora, the most famous groundhog in Norristown, along with some of her furry friends. We'll meet carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and find out about their favorite foods. Children will make a safari hat before they go on a hunt for bison and elk.
March 8 - "Snacking with Snakes" Many people have a fear of snakes, but they are quite fascinating creatures. We will find out why snakes are important to several different environments and meet some of our scaly friends along with their lizard cousins. Children will make a snake puppet.
