HABITAT AND RANGE

They inhabit rainforests in Central and the northwestern parts of South America.

IDENTIFICATION

Though usually green and black, they can vary in color from green to turquoise etc. and can also have blotches of dark color on their skin. They measure about 1 inch.

DIET

They eat a variety of insects, including ants.

REPRODUCTION AND LIFESPAN

They join together in large groups, and each male claims his territory, and then impresses a female. She will then lay her eggs in his territory, and when they hatch, the tadpoles will be carried to a small pond where their parents will care for them. They can live from 3-15 years in the wild.

NOTES

  • They can range in color from green to cobalt blue to yellow
  • They have sucker like disks with a weak adhesive on them to help with climbing
