HABITAT AND RANGE

They inhabit the rainforests of Central and South America.

IDENTIFICATION

They measure about 1 inch, and have yellow bodies with brown patches.

DIET

They eat mainly moths.

REPRODUCTION AND LIFESPAN

They lay eggs in moist places, and underwater if need be. Their lifespan is short, usually less than 3 years in the wild.

NOTES

  • They are the only known vertebrates that lay eggs both above and below water
  • They are more active at night, and after it rains
