Ages 9 – 12

June 17-21, July 15-19: Wilderness Explorers

Are you prepared to survive a wild adventure this summer! Through team challenges every day and S.T.E.M focused projects, campers will learn how animals adapt to survive the wilderness. Every exciting new day will focus on a different animal adaptation and will feature up-close animal greets, and team building games. Don’t miss out on this adventure filled week!

June 24-28, August 12-16: Junior Zookeeper Sold Out

Does your camper want to work with animals some day? Join us as we explore the world of zookeeping with our Junior Zookeeper camp! Each day of the week will focus on a different aspect of zookeeping and what it takes to care for our zoo animals. Campers will make enrichment, learn about animal diet and training, and meet some of our animals up close and personal. Although khakis are not required, a love for animals is encouraged!

July 1-5, August 19-23: Enrichment Engineers

What does it take to design a home for animals? As Elmwood Park Zoo embarks on our centennial renovation project, campers will learn what goes into designing and building new enclosures and enrichment. They will practice their skills of design and build mock animal exhibits, create enrichment for ambassador animals and meet new animals each day all while learning about zoo conservation.

July 8-12, August 5-9: Naturalist in Training

Is your camper interested in the natural world around them? This camp will explore what it means to be a naturalist, and how campers can develop their skills of observation! This camp will also focus on identification, and classification of the animals here at the zoo. Campers will meet professionals in the field, see animals up close, and learn through hands-on activities!

July 22-26, August 26-30: Ambassador Adventures

Plunge into the world of zoology by studying the habitats and behaviors of our ambassador animals. Design enrichment and puzzles for our animals and even learn all about animal training! Campers will observe our zoo animals and discover what animals need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives. This week of camp will feature animal presentations, themed activities, and more!

July 29-August 2: Mission: Conservation

Animals need our help! Learn about some of the endangered and threatened animals we have here at the zoo and all about what the zoo is doing to help these species. Campers will dive into the world of conservation and discover ways to help save wildlife in their own backyards and neighborhoods. This week features S.T.E.M based projects to spark creativity and excitement, and every camper will learn their one thing to help save the planet.
