Marketing / Promotions

General Description:
Elmwood Park Zoo is seeking summer promotions interns in its Marketing and Sales department. Interns will work with the managers of Marketing and Sales gaining hand-on experience in promotions, branding, sponsorship, community relations, non-profit development, and grass-roots marketing. Interns will interact directly with zoo customers to create awareness of zoo programs. They will assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of promotional strategies.

Qualifications:
Prospective interns should be enthusiastic, friendly, self-motivated, and a team player. A background or knowledge of zoos and animals may be helpful, but is not necessary. Excellent communication skills are a must. College majors in Marketing or Communications are preferred.

Length of Service/Hours:
Internships last for a three month period. Interns will be expected to work 20 to 40 hours weekly, based on availability. Please be advised that this is an unpaid internship, good for course credit only.

Education

General Description:
A highly motivated individual who will develop and implement interactive educational programs for zoo visitors and groups.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform education programs on and off zoo grounds for a variety of groups and age levels (scouts, preschool, families, and school groups)
  • Assist with the Zoo on Wheels Program.
  • Present live animal shows.
  • Assist with the development of new education programs and lesson plans.
  • Aid in research to maintain the creativity and quality of the education programming.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Applicants must have at least two semesters of college. Must have good public speaking skills. Must be able to work independently and complete the Zoo’s two-day training period (which will include animal handling of program animals). Must have updated TB and Tetanus and provide proof of same. Majors: Education, Environmental Science, Biology, Zoology, or other related majors.

Length of Service/Hours:
Internship lengths are generally a three-month period. Minimum hour requirement - 8 hrs per week.

Elmwood Park Zoo offers internships year-round in the Education and Marketing and Sales Departments. Internships are a great way to gain valuable experience in the zoological field and may qualify for college course credits.
