Camp Counselor

General Description:

The camp counselor assists the education staff with Elmwood Park Zoo's Summer Camp including the creation and administering of lesson plans to zoo campers. Job Responsibilities:

*Attend 5 day training session.

*Prepare a written lesson plan for each day.

*Carry out planned programs with zoo campers.

*Work with other staff as team members.

*Willingness to greet parents at the start and end of each day.

*Answer parents' questions about children's activities.

*Prepare teaching sites for day's activities

*Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skill:

*Minimum of one year completion of degree program in Environmental Education, Education, Biology, Zoology or related field or equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.

*Desire to teach wildlife and ecological concepts to children, ages 5-13.

*Excellent written and oral communication skills.

*Good organizational skills

*Willingness to be flexible in a variety of situations.

*Experience with animal handling a plus.

*First Aid/CPR certification a plus.
