About

The cougar is the second largest wild cat in the Americas. With over 40 names in English alone, the cougar holds the Guinness record for the animal with the highest number of names. The reason for numerous names is presumably due to its wide distribution. The most common names are mountain lion, puma, catamount, and panther. Their large paws and hind legs allow it to sprint short distances and leap long distances. A cougar has the ability to vertically jump 18 feet high and leap up to 40 feet horizontally.
