Because of their sociable nature, this bird often gathers in large flocks. Their cries are very loud and can be identified by their distinctive three-note whistling call, as their name suggests.

Habitat & Range
The white-faced whistling duck is found in both Africa and South America, a highly unusual distribution pattern. It has been hypothesized that humans may have relocated them to different parts of the world.
Identification
These ducks are recognizable by their white faces, which are their namesake.
Diet
These ducks eat grass, seeds, aquatic plants, insects, mollusks, and crustaceans.
Reproduction & Lifespan
Usually between eight and twelve eggs are laid in it's nest, which is built on a platform of sticks not far from the ground. They occasionally use trees for nesting.
Fantastic Fact
This duck is protected under the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds. This treaty was founded to protect birds that migrate between Europe and Africa.
