Camp Counselor - Seasonal
Position: Summer Camp Counselor -Seasonal
Reports to: Manager of Onsite Programs
Supervises: Summer Camp Children Ages 3-15, Junior Volunteers
Coordinates with: Education Department Management and Staff, parents/guardians of summer camp children, Animal Care Staff
Summary of Responsibilities:
A highly motivated individual responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing summer camp curriculum for campers ages 3-15. Responsible for providing exceptional education to campers and outstanding guest service to parents/guardians. Must be able to cooperate in a team and thrive in a flexible environment.
- Assist the organization in its mission to educate visitors and create an engaging experience.
- Assist management in ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas of operation.
- Be available as per business needs.
- Always follow and adhere to all policies and procedures for the organization.
- Assist in developing and implementing games and activities in coordination with curriculum.
- Adhere to prepared daily schedule and implement planned programming.
- Understand topics pertinent to curriculum.
- Communicate with campers’ parent/guardian on a daily basis.
- Check in and sign out campers at the beginning and end of each day.
- Prepare and properly manage camp spaces in a professional manner.
- Update supervisors on supply needs.
- Capable of handling minor conflicts among campers and staff.
- Minimum one-year completion of degree program in Environmental Education, Education, Biology or related field, or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.
- Previous experience teaching children
Other Requirements:
- Desire to teach wildlife, conservation and ecological concepts
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must have basic computer knowledge and experience
- Great organizational skills
- Basic First Aid knowledge
Preferred Skills:
First Aid/CPR Certification
Leadership experience
Identification: Two forms of official valid identification are required. Ability to pass background and child abuse clearances
Wage: $16/hour
