Special Needs: Sense of Adventure Camp
July 22 @ 9:00 am - July 26 @ 12:00 pm
Sense of Adventure Camp: Ages 6-13
This year, Zoo Camp is making some exciting changes! We are offering brand new camps including a Special Needs Camp tailored to children who would benefit from a smaller class size. Our New Sense of Adventure Camp will feature a smaller class size with an adult to child ratio of 1:5. This camp will offer a safe sensory experience for children of all abilities. This camp will allow campers to experience the whole zoo with in depth zoo walks, up close animal encounters, hands on activities, and lots of fun learning! Our lessons are pre-planned and adhere to a schedule, but allow for flexibility, so our counselors can better assist individuals within a group setting. Please Note: Camp counselors are certified by IBCCES and have experience with special needs students.

In May of 2018 Elmwood Park Zoo became the first zoo in the world to earn certification as a Certified Autism Center. The designation, given by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), is awarded to organizations who have completed a training and review process with the goal to better serve individuals with autism and other sensory needs.
