First listed as "Threatened with Extinction" under the Preservation of Species Act, with the support of AZA zoos the red wolf's status has been upgraded to “Endangered”. Elmwood Park Zoo will participate in the Red Wolf's recovery by actively participating in its repopulation program.
River otters are some of the most beloved animals at the zoo. Their new exhibit built into North America will see larger play areas and underwater viewing opportunities for guests.
The American alligator has been a staple of Elmwood Park Zoo for years. Ever since the Zoo's resident alligator, Penny, was rescued from Pennypack Creek, the species has been an important ambassador for our responsible pet ownership messaging.
The bald eagle has been a symbol of conservation success stories on how, when groups of people come together for the greater good, the results can foster extraordinary change. The Zoo’s accreditation with the AZA allows us to partner with US Fish and Wildlife Service and is the reason why we are granted permission from the government to exhibit our nation’s symbol.
One of the largest and most iconic animals at the zoo, the bison will roam in an expansive new territory, enjoying acreage which can be seen by foot or by the new Bison Express.
ACCESSIBLE AMERICA
Guests of all ages and abilities will be able to comfortably traverse the expanded 20 acres through exciting new amenities like the Bison Express.
