Project Holocene

Promoting animal conservation through art

Elmwood Park Zoo has partnered with artist Russell Ronat to present this unique exhibit of large, illuminated mixed media paintings. The works are samples from Russell’s collection that’s features different endangered species. The particular paintings in this exhibition were chosen because they either represent animals in Elmwood Park Zoo’s collection, or they’re slated to join the zoo’s collection in the near future.

The goal of Project Holocene is to show both the beauty and fragility of many species that are currently under threat of extinction. Art plays a vital role in communicating the urgency of needed actions to preserve the diversity of wild animals.

This limited-engagement art exhibition is on display through Labor Day Weekend 2023. It is located at the south end of the zoo next to the Bison enclosure.
