Our annual celebration that focuses on the joys of reading returns Saturday, February 26, from 12 pm to 2 pm. Read Across America is a nationally-celebrated event that aims to motivate reading among children of all ages. In addition to a selection of books available for purchase in our Book Fair, this year’s event festivities also include an animal greet and meeting local authors! Read Across America will also serve as the kickoff to the new One Book One Norristown program. This community literacy and civic engagement initiative was developed by the Greater Norristown NAACP, Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library, and the Literacy Council of Norristown, and it is planning events throughout 2022. Author of Cheesesteaks and Clippers, Tre Hadrick will present his humorous and engaging story, which captures the warmth and friendship between multi-generations and reinforces on the values of respect, service and social integrity.
1:45 PM – Monica D’Antonio and One Book One Norristown
Monica will showcase One Book One Norristown, a community literacy and civic engagement initiative developed by the Greater Norristown NAACP, Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library, and the Literacy Council of Norristown.

Elmwood Park Zoo’s Read Across America is free to attend with regular zoo admission.
Author Jerry Spinelli and a host of other special guests will help Elmwood Park Zoo celebrate their annual Read Across America event on Saturday, March 2, from 11 AM to 2 PM. Read Across America is an event organized by the National Education Association. It celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Seuss by encouraging children and young adults to read.
The zoo’s celebration features Mr. Spinelli, a Norristown native and acclaimed author of “Maniac Magee” and “Stargirl.” He will be greeting guests and signing books in the zoo’s Canopy Gardens Hall.
Additional special guests will include members of RSVP, a King of Prussia-based organization that supports communities through volunteerism. They will be reading popular English and Spanish language children’s stories.
Popular PBS Kids character Super Why will be greeting guests, courtesy of his friends from the WHYY Kids Club.
In addition to the special guest appearances, Read Across America will also feature a book fair, live animal greets, and a used book drive that benefits RSVP. Read Across America is a free to attend event after purchasing regular zoo admission.
