Habitat & Range
Brazilian teals prefer to live in the freshwater wetlands of the central and eastern portions of South America. They prefer bodies of water surrounded by dense vegetation, and they typically inhabit areas away from the coasts.
Identification
Feathers are light brown in color, with males having red beaks and legs that are brighter than those of the females. Males also have a light gray coloring that can be found on the sides of their neck and head.
Diet
Teals are omnivores, eating seeds, roots, fruits, insects, mice, and small invertebrates. Ducklings will eat only insects.
Reproduction & Lifespan
Teals live in pairs, and both males and females help to raise their young. They can live from 10 to 15 years.
