Internships

Elmwood Park Zoo offers exciting and unique internship opportunities that help students and recent graduates reach a range of academic and professional goals. Internship positions are available from a variety of groups at the zoo including: Zookeeping Internship, Education Ambassador Care Internship, Conservation Education Internship, Marketing Internship, Public Zoo Programing Internship, and Event Planning and Operations Internship.

Zookeeping: Exhibit Collection

This internship offers the most advanced experience in exotic animal husbandry. Interns will work extensively with exhibit collection animals ranging from giraffes to small primates.

Zookeeping: Education Collection

This internship is divided into two parts: 1. Intermediate experience with exotic and domestic animal husbandry. Interns will work with Education Ambassador animals ranging from the North American Porcupine to small reptiles. 2. On-site education throughout the zoo with Education Ambassador animals.

Conservation Education Internship

This internship is divided into two parts: 1. On-site guest education throughout the zoo 2. Introductory-level animal care with our barn exhibit animals, including goats, sheep, and chickens.

Event Planning
& Operations
Internship

This intern will be responsible for assisting in the booking and successful production of private events (weddings, bridal/baby showers, birthday parties, fundraisers, etc.)

Guest Engagement & Programming Internship

Interns will work closely with our Guest Services team as they learn what steps are needed to put on an event at the zoo including setup/breakdown, planning, and more.

Marketing
Internship

Individuals will gain hands-on experience in promotions, branding, sponsorships, non-profit development, preparation of events and more!
