Bookkeeper
Position: Bookkeeper – Full Time
Reports to: Finance Manager
Coordinates with: All Departments
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Bookkeeper performs work of a skilled nature under the direction of the Finance Manager. Assignments and duties include, but are not limited to, data entry of accounts payable/receivable, preparing bank deposits, handling cash, invoicing and other related task designated by the Finance Manager and/or CFO. This position is fast paced and requires strong communication skills with Zoo staff and occasionally with vendors. This highly organized, self-motivated person will also be tech savvy, as software is ever changing. Accuracy with a strong attention to detail is required.
- Assist the Zoo in fostering an appreciation of wildlife and the environment that will inspire active participation in conservation
- Assist Management in ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas of the operation of the Zoo
- Follow and adhere to all policies and procedures
- Manage accounts payable/receivable processes
- Utilize QuickBooks, Excel and other accounting software to track financial transactions
- Record day-to-day financial transactions and ensure entries are timely and precise
- Process and record vendor invoices, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to payment terms
- Maintain complete and accurate financial records by reconciliation of vendor accounts, bank accounts, QuickBooks accounts & spreadsheets
- Accurate preparation of bank deposits and check payments
- Maintain accurate filing systems for all payables, receivables and other property documents
- Assist with a variety of office support, clerical duties and activities of a general and specialized nature in support of the Finance Manager and CFO
- Assist with processing monthly tax payments
- Assist in HR related duties such as processing employee paperwork, processing payroll, employee benefits, orientation
- Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality in handling critical and sensitive information, records, and reports
- Understand, interpret, and apply general administrative and departmental policies and procedures
- Read, understand, and review documents for accuracy and relevant information
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Learn new software programs as implemented
- College graduate preferred or 2 years’ experience in a related field
- Knowledge accounting principles & practices, QuickBooks or other accounting software, and Microsoft products
- Willingness to work occasional fundraisers/special events
- Must be a team supporter, extremely organized and self-motivated
- Must be detailed oriented, organized and accurate
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with the ability to meet deadlines
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Effective problem-solving
Identification: Two forms of official valid identification are required, must be able to pass background and child abuse clearances
