Location: Elmwood Park Zoo

Experience: Experience Required – Attractions Operations, Cash Handling and Management

Pay Rate:  $16.00-$20.00/ hour – depending on prior experience

Schedule: Must be able to work a 40 hour week. 

Must be able to work weekends and holidays and during school breaks. Schedule varies and is dependent on the event calendar, weather, and guest attendance.

EPZ Team Member Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Zoo in fostering an appreciation of wildlife and the environment that will inspire active participation in conservation
  • Assist Management in ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas of the operation of the Zoo
  • Follow and adhere to all policies and procedures

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily operation of Treetop Adventures Zip Line Course and other attractions at the Elmwood Park Zoo
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining Treetop Adventures employee schedules.
  • Provide effective leadership by being actively involved in all Treetop Adventures related programs and services and evaluating them on a daily basis.
  • Track and report on sales and expenses monthly to the Assistant Director of Events & Operations in relation to Treetop Adventures and other attractions, with attention paid towards projected revenue throughout year.
  • Coordinate with other departments to effectively create and execute various programming and sales efforts.
  • Communicate effectively with both adults and children in all settings.
  • Assists with daily operations of the Treetop Adventures and attractions.
  • Responsible for proper training and upkeep of all zoo attractions, to ensure safe practices are followed.
  • Responsible for overseeing all Treetop Adventures related sales.
  • Ensures proper signage throughout course (non-educational) for safety and convenience of guests.
  • Responsible for ensuring daily and monthly inspections take place.
  • Ensure guests’ questions, comments and/or complaints and/or contacts are forwarded to the appropriate zoo staff.
  • Responsible for the training and professional development of Treetop Adventures staff.
  • Oversees the setup and breakdown of the zoo’s seasonal attractions, primarily including the fall Boo at the Zoo setup and winter Wild Lights show.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Director of Events & Operations & Associate Director of Guest Services.
  • Assists with safe management and zoo opening and closing procedures.

Qualification Requirements:

  • This position may require prolonged standing.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work at heights comfortably and for long periods of time
  • Traverse through the ropes course by climbing, balancing and standing in a tree with a harness
  • Must be able to work inside or outside in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Bilingual is a plus.
  • First aid and CPR training is preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years or older.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to follow written or oral directions, understands and exercises good judgment, and foresees and applies safety precautions applicable to the work
  • Computer skills: Windows, POS, Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint.)
  • Ability to Multi-task and address needs in multiple areas of the zoo.
  • No fear of heights.
  • Must be able to pass background and child abuse clearances.
  • Two forms of official valid identification are required.
